GENERATE THE PULSE POWDER (sheng mai san)
- Consist of ginseng (or Panax q), Schisandra chinensis and Ophiopogon japonicus.
- Indications: chronic cough with sparse sputum that is difficult to expectorate, shortness of breath, spontaneous sweating, a dry mouth and tongue, red tongue with a dry thin coating and a deficient rapid pulse.
- Use for chronic bronchitis, pulmonary tuberculosis, supraventricular arrhythmia, rheumatic heart disease, coronary disease and post-bypass debility.
- Contraindication: This formula should not be use when there is a high fever, where the pathogenic influence has not been resolved. If it is used in this case, it will prolong the cure of the disease.
- Decreases oxygen requirement of the heart muscle (myocardium). Increases contractility, protective effect against myocardial ischemia, improves coronary blood flow.
- With the addition of Astragalus to this formula, increases LAK cell (lymphokine activated killer cells) activity.
6.1. Lymphokine-activated Killer Cell, non-specific cytotoxic cells that are generated in the presence of Interleukin-2.
6.2. Interleukin-2 initiates proliferation of activated T-cells.
6.3. T-cell, a small circulating lymphocyte produced in the bone marrow that mature in the thymus. T-cells primarily mediate cellular response such as graft rejection. One kind of T-cell, the helper cell, affects the production of antibodies by B-cells. A suppressor T-cell suppresses B-cell activity.
